Harvesting this monster buck is truly a once in a lifetime accomplishment!
When it comes to hunting a monster buck it often requires more patience then believed to be humanly possible. For hunter Tim Phillips, this is exceptionally true.
Tim and a number of other hunters had been looking for this deer since back in 2012. The animal was captured on multiple trail cameras in the area, but continued to outsmart hunters at every turn. At least until recently.
"I've been hunting on that property for five years," Tim Phillips told KSDK. "I knew he was out there but had to wait for the right time."
After the morning of November 11th, Tim still hadn't pulled the trigger. So he climbed out of his stand to grab a bite to eat and return later on to hunt the same stand in the afternoon.
"I decided to hunt that afternoon and the monster buck walked out just before dark. My heart was racing when I realized it was him," Phillips said.
Somehow, as the deer approached, Tim was able to calm down enough to make a clean shot on this monster buck.
After recovering the deer it became evident just how massive the antlers had grown to be. It had 39 points including the ring hooks and measured in at roughly 243 inches. While this monster buck isn't a record it is certainly the deer of a lifetime for this St. Charles County hunter.
Phillips plans to have the deer mounted and is donating the meat to Share the Harvest, a foundation that helps feed local people in need.
