Elk hunting season is months away, but this video will whet your appetite in the meantime.
Here’s a sight you don’t see very often. This video – filmed back in 2011 – shows hundreds of elk migrating across mountain slopes and open pastures near Dubois, Wyoming. There must be hundreds if not thousands in the mass elk exodus.
Wyoming is home to one of the largest elk herds in the world – the Jackson Elk Herd. During the winter, nearly 14,000 elk make their way south from Yellowstone National Park to the National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole. US Fish and Wildlife manage the herd through supplemental feeding and a lottery-based culling program.
