This Wyoming man never thought a harmless joyride in his small aircraft would end up landing him jail time.
Kevin Christopherson, a 53-year-old Casper, Wyoming man, has found himself in a bit of legal trouble.
While out for a joyride in his ultralight trike aircraft, he happened upon an enormous herd of elk and made the decision to follow close and fly right above them for several miles, all while filming the encounter on a personal video camera.
Although the footage is quite impressive, the Wyoming Department of Fish and Game did not seem to share the same enthusiasm that Christopherson did.
Regardless of the fact that Christopherson shared his video footage with the Wyoming Department of Fish and Game before posting the video online, claiming he was attempting to help them by showing the size of the herd, he still ended up in court.
Christopherson was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation and a one-year suspended jail sentence for the charge of “big game harassment.”
After watching the video, do you believe Mr. Christopherson was in the wrong, or was he innocently attempting to aid the Wyoming Department of Fish and Game by surveying that particular elk herd? Do you think the charge is too strict or too lenient?
Either way, we can be pretty certain that the next time Mr. Christopherson is out for a flight in his small aircraft and spots any form of wildlife, he’ll be heading in the opposite direction.
