Woodpecker Fights to the Death to Protect Its Eggs from a Snake [VIDEO]

A woodpecker arrives at her nest with a snake waiting and she is willing to get eaten alive to protect her eggs.

What a mother won’t do to protect her young. This woodpecker is in for the fight of her life with a snake that wants to have its cake and eat it too.

You won’t believe what happens even after she realizes what’s in store for her. Watch a mother do what a mother does best:

The video is grainy but there’s a good chance that this bird is a guayquil woodpecker. They are known to live in tropical regions like Ecuador and Peru. Note the ladder-pattern chest and the white cheek patch.

A YouTube user says that it was filmed in Brazil, but one commenter says that he filmed it in Peru. We may never know.

Did that girl fight for her brood or what? The snake may be a yellow-bellied puffing snake which is known to attack birds in their nests and eat their eggs. It’s a tropical snake that lives in the trees.

This guy got the video of a lifetime; it’s just too bad that the final product wasn’t a bit clearer.
