What happens when a marlin the size of a truck is caught? People freak right out.
The humongous blue marlin was recently caught July 28, 2015 while fishing near Kona, Hawaii.
The lucky angler, Guy Kitaoka, fought the giant fish for over an hour from a 21-foot skiff, which the fish barely fit into.
The 12.5 foot marlin weighed in at 1,368 pounds, and was estimated to be between 18 and 26 years old, which is quite old for the species.
A more average blue marlin is along the lines of 200 to 400 pounds, with a life span of up to 27 years.
Here’s video of the monster, for even more perspective.

Amazingly, this fish was eight pounds short of the all-tackle record set in 1982. To put that into perspective, that’s the weight of a small appetizer for this fish. Not that it matters.
Since the angler used the help of an electric reel, it would have been exempt from the world record even if it had exceeded the previous record weight.
Looking at the measurements, it certainly sounds like a big fish, but seeing it laid out in the back of a truck and extending off each end really takes your breath away. This was definitely the fish that old man in the sea was battling.
Blue marlins are some of the fastest fish in the ocean, and are highly regarded by anglers. It’s no wonder given their natural beauty, size, and tremendous fight.
