Winnipeg Couple Hopes for Change After Rescuing Pelican Caught in Fishing Line [VIDEO]

Discarded fishing line is causing life and death struggles for Winnipeg wildlife. Watch as this couple rescues a white pelican they were fortunate to cross paths with.

The dangers of fishing line to birds and animals is real.

This video perfectly illustrates how broken-off or discarded line can become a deathtrap.

Ken Schultz and his wife believe more needs to be done around Lockport dam to protect wildlife from fishing line. A week earlier, they discovered two dead pelicans that had become entangled in discarded fishing gear.

Complaints to Manitoba Conservation have gone unanswered so far.

“We’ve been after the government to close the area down because of this type of thing with fishing,” said Schultz. “Personally, I’ve been asking for years and they just don’t seem to care.”
