Why Some People Like Shooting Thumpers and Really Feeling the Recoil

shooting thumpers

They’re called thumpers. You know: large-caliber rifles that really buck into your shoulder.

Some people don’t like that kick. Others love the big boom and recoil, like Jon Patton from TGC News.

Patton joins the Military Arms Channel to talk about, and use, some heavy 500 guns. It’s a pure love of the big boom, the power. Even with suppressors, Patton’s rifles make big boom.

Some of you may be wondering if this is a bit over-the-top. Absolutely.

Some of the words Patton uses to describe the firearms he shoots: “Useless. Shenanigans. Ridiculous. Silly.” In fact, you may want to go back and check out his multicolored, 4-inch barrel, 556 pistol. Useless, but loud and fun.

Basically, he wants to see a gigantic hole in the end of the barrel.

So, what does it all boil down to? Why do some people love shooting thumpers?

“This is just fun,” Patton says. “That’s what it’s all about for me. I don’t like getting super serious. I want to have fun when I’m going out. Yes, I take it seriously, but I want to have fun.”
