Here’s a group of grass carp feeding in… the trees? Check out what’s so tasty that they’ll come right out of the water to get it.
There are many types of fish around the world that will feed above the water. Some are after insects, and some will even chase birds!
Carp are usually content to feed off the bottom or on the shallow edges of ponds and lakes. But these cunning little mud-sharks have found a new treat…in the trees.
According to some of the commenters, these grass carp are taking berries from a Russian olive tree.
This ornamental shrub was introduced way back in the early 1900s in the central and western parts of the U.S. Now considered a “noxious weed” it is found on the USDA’s invasive list.
The way carp thrive in different areas, and in fact take over, it would be nice to see them eat the whole tree… and then croak on the shore.
