Besides going to my deer stands within a mile of my house, whenever I go into public land or away from my vehicle, I always carry a small backpack with the essentials. Even if the hunting outing was intended to be only for two hours, you just never know what could happen.
Be ready to sustain yourself in an emergency situation for up to two days and always let loved ones know where you are going for your fishing and hunting trips. A broken bone or a mishap could strand you, but with the right gear you can self-sustain until extracted by EMS or Search and Rescue, or when your hunting buddy comes to your aid.
Stay safe and be prepared for an outstanding fall hunting season
