Two young killer whales play in the wake of a vessel off the coast of Chile giving lucky sailors a rare glimpse into the secret lives of orcas.
It’s not every day people can witness killer whales frolicking in the water, so close to human contact.
The following video, however, shows how sailors in northern Patagonia, at the mouth of the Reloncavi Estuary, were able to capture two young orcas playing within feet of the boat’s wake, nibbling on rope.
Unconcerned by the crowd of spectators they were attracting, the majestic animals can be seen playing with a dinghy tied to the back of the crew’s vessel as the older orca waited for them in the distance.
In the video you can hear say in Spanish, “Look! Look! They are playing!”
Whether they were actually playing or stalking their prey is anyone’s guess, but this video captures these stunning animals in their natural habitat.
