Weasel Attacks a Clueless Cottontail in the Snow

This weasel is as stealthy as a ninja, which spells bad news for the cute cottontail.

What weasels lack in size and weight, they certainly make up for in attitude. A fearless and aggressive hunter, weasel's aren't afraid to pick on prey much larger than themselves, and in the case of this video, that prey happens to be a cottontail.

Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Conservation Officer Krystal Tucker recently filmed this incredible footage in Weber County, highlighting the stealth and blitz-style attack that weasels are known for.

As you'll see, the cottontail hadn't a clue what hit it.

According to Wikipedia, here is the technique weasels use when subduing rabbits: The long-tailed weasel strikes quickly, taking its prey off guard. It grabs the nearest part of the animal and climbs upon its body, maintaining its hold with its feet. The long-tailed weasel then maneuvers itself to inflict a lethal bite to the neck. That is exactly what we saw in this video.

Nature is definitely an "eat or be eaten" type of deal. And no matter how cute you are, you can still be a blood-thirsty killer.
