Watch This Osprey Dive on Its Prey and Be Thankful You’re Not a Fish

This osprey has found dinner and it’s all over for the fish. Watch in awe as a fish eagle goes right under water for the catch of the day.

Ospreys can and will make these high altitude dives for fish and end up right below the surface of the water.

This one just happened to get caught on video above and below the water for a great look at what a top level predator does to feed itself and its young.

Ospreys are found on almost every continent except Antarctica. Relying on an almost exclusive diet of fish, the osprey is one of the most specialized predators in the natural world.

They can be seen nesting in large areas of mostly sticks and twigs. Sometimes they build these on top of power line poles and in transformers. Some localities will put another pole nearby and physically move the nest to keep the birds safe.

All they need is a location near water with adequate hunting grounds. I’ve seen these beautiful birds everywhere from the St. Lawrence River to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia.
