It’s not easy to catch a sturgeon.
Watch this video preview from Fishing with Rod, and you’ll see what I mean.
I saw part of a battle with a sturgeon last year in Michigan—but I didn’t know it at the time.
My brother and I were trolling the Muskegon Channel, which connects Lake Michigan to Muskegon Lake and the Muskegon River, during the fall salmon run.
We came up to a boat that was perpendicular to the channel walls. We could tell that the two guys on the boat were doing something, but we weren’t sure what. Then we saw that they were headed our way, so we turned to go around them.
Then they headed back toward us. We thought they were drunk or oblivious or something. The next day in the newspaper, we read about how they caught a 75-inch sturgeon that dragged their boat wherever it wanted.
Watching the angler trying to pull up the sturgeon in this preview brought me back to that evening. Now I wish I had seen the end of that hour-long struggle.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll be watching this full video when it comes out Oct. 14.
