Watch the C-130 Angel Wing Flare and Learn Its Real Purpose

The C-130 Hercules is one of the workhorses of the U.S. Airforce.

Besides being a deadly weapon this beast of an aircraft has the ability to defend itself against some serious enemies.

Watching this beautiful display will remind you that if you see the C-130 doing this you should either salute or run for your life.

There’s some question as to whether this is an honors display or a defensive maneuver.

Check out the amazing Angel Wing Flare and then scroll down for the definitive answer below.

I have a close personal friend who was a C-130 pilot for many years tells me “The flares are used as a defensive decoy to defeat enemy surface to air missiles shot at the ‘Herc.’ The angel wing smoke pattern is created by the vortices caused by the props and wings as the flares are fired.”

As always we have one more thing to be thankful for: our men and women of the armed forces that live to protect us from any and all threats and make our great country safe!
