Visit a Piece of American Fly Fishing History with Hoagy Carmichael

American fly fishing history is on display at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum.

Take a walk through American fly fishing history with this famous bamboo fly rod maker, Everett Garrison and his successor, Hoagy Carmichael.

It is a true piece of Americana history now preserved in the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum.

It’s very cool that they have taken this fly shop and moved it to a museum for visitors to see. It’s not just an out-of-bounds display, either, as craftsman still use its tools and machines to teach the craft of bamboo fly rod making.

Mr. Garrison and Hoagy Carmichael not only operated this prolific fly shop over the decades, they also produced one of the best-known books on bamboo rod-making, called A Master’s Guide on Building a Bamboo Fly Rod. This book is considered by many fly fishing enthusiasts and rod makers to be the definitive classic on the building of this functional art.

If you are ever near Livingston Manor, New York, give yourself a treat and check out this vintage fly shop at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum. The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum is located at 1031 Old Route 17, Livingston Manor, NY.
