Video: How To Stay Safe Hunting In Bear Country by Wyoming Game and Fish

As hunters start heading into bear country, it's important to know what to look for and how to stay safe.

In this video, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will show you how to protect yourself should you be hunting in bear country this fall. Learn from the experts and stay safe out there.

Many of the actions performed when hunting can attract bears, or at least cause a hunter to stumble upon one. Things like masking your scent, moving quietly and having an open carcass in the field are some prime examples.

In many cases during the fall, bears will experience hyperphagia—a state that causes them to consume large amounts of food before hibernation. Many of their food sources will be in lower areas, so recognize this and plan accordingly before hunting. Stay close to your hunting partner and always keep an eye out when in the field.

Also, be sure to stay vigilant when cleaning an animal while in bear country.

These are some of the best ways to avoid an encounter with a bear during the fall hunting season.
