BREAKING: Utah Fisherman Wades into Spanish Fork River, Finds Baby in Upturned Car

FOX 13

In an incredible story, a fisherman finds a baby in an upside-down car on the Spanish Fork.

According to FOX 13 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a fisherman discovered an overturned car around 12:24 p.m. Friday in the frigid water of the Spanish Fork River, and inside was an 18-month child and a 25-year-old woman. The child is in critical but stable condition and the Springville woman has deceased.

Reports say a resident in the area heard a crash around 10:30 p.m. Friday, leaving estimates at how long the child was trapped inside the car at 14 hours.

Had the angler not decided to go fishing that day, there’s no telling how long the child would have been inside the car. The vehicle was not visible from the roadway, but after wading into the river and seeing the car, the fisherman called emergency dispatch.

Here’s a video report of the incident.

It’s still uncertain how or why the car left the road, and the investigation remains open.
