Ultralight Backpacking Clothing That Won’t Weigh You Down

If you’re looking to get into ultralight backpacking, you may want to reconsider the clothing you bring along.

In this video, ultralight backpacking expert and instructor Mike Clelland shows us what he wears and carries in the backcountry. You might find that, by emulating Mike’s system, you can shave a few pounds off your own backpacking apparel.

Most outdoorsmen and women know the value of using a layering system while pursuing all of their outdoor interests. However, many forget to purchase outer layers a size larger to prevent the constriction of inner layers.

Mike’s choice in footwear is also something you don’t see in the woods too often, but it makes sense. It’s been said that a pound on your feet is equal to five on your back. So, by shedding a few pounds on your footwear, you’ll feel like your carrying a lighter load.

If you’ve never tried ultralight backpacking and want to learn more, you can purchase a copy of Mike’s book or check out his blog to learn what it takes to take less to the woods.
