Aside from the fact that the ammo for these rifles, and the rifles themselves, are very cheap when compared to modern day firearms, military surplus rifles offer a unique view of history. If you purchase a military surplus rifle, you are essentially buying a piece of history. The rifle you buy may have even been used in battle. Although that is a long shot, firing a military surplus rifle offers a way to interact with history in a rare way.
My first ever centerfire rifle was a beat up old Turkish Mauser that I picked up for $100 at a gun show. That old gun taught me more about shooting and gun ownership than any weapon I have owned to date. Do yourself a favor and look into buying a military surplus rifle. You won’t regret the decision.
