For most of us, low-budget crossbows are just the way to go.
Luckily, since crossbows have been gaining popularity just about everywhere for deer hunting, the prices have been going down and the quality has been going up. This is a good thing for the rest of us. If you aren’t looking to drop $1,000 on a crossbow, thankfully, you can get a great one for a heck of a lot less money and still be just as effective in the woods.
#5. Barnett Jackal
If you need a quality crossbow at a great price, this is a great crossbow to get your hands on. At only $349.00, for a sub-$500 bow, you are getting quality that should be worth a lot more. However, this is a slightly heavier bow at 7.7 pounds, you do get 315 fps, which is more than enough.
#4. Wicked Ridge Warrior G3
Tenpoint has become renowned for making incredible products. Their Wicked Ridge series is their low budget crossbow option for those not looking to spend a mortgage payment on one. Coming in at $399, this is one smooth and accurate bow. Weighing in at 6.6 pounds with a 320 fps, it’s plenty fast. It does have a higher draw weight to get there at 155 pounds.
#3. PSE Fang
PSE has been around for a long time and they have gotten really good at making high quality, low budget crossbows. Their Fang crossbow is exactly that. At only $349, this bow is a steal. It’s just a tad bit lighter than others as well as 6.5 pounds. It also shoots at 345 fps as well which is a nice touch. This crossbow is rated for 70 yards. Just think about that for a second.
#2. Barnett BCR Recurve
The only recurve on the list, and not surprisingly hailing from Barnett, this thing packs a punch. Weighing in at only 4.9 pounds, it’s also the lightest bow on the list. Surprisingly, it shoots at 245 fps, which is plenty fast to get the job done. Recurve crossbows do not have the same knockdown power at a distance as their compound crossbow cousins, but they are inexpensive. At only $199, you can’t get much better at this price point.
#1. SA Sports Empire Beowulf
Now, this is a crossbow. Found online at only $323, good luck finding a better low budget crossbow with all these bells and whistles. It fires an incredible 360 fps and has a draw weight of 175 pounds. It weighs in right at the same average weight of 6.5 pounds as well. This bow also has the quiver rest on the side of the bow facing backwards which is a pretty cool touch.
So, what do you think? At the very least, this is a nice place to start if you are looking to get some sweet low budget crossbows at an even better price.
