Watch in less than five minutes how this master taxidermist makes a deer mount from start to finish.
This time lapse video was filmed by Joe Clima of Mountain Made Media for McLagan’s Taxidermy in Bend, Ore. In the video, one of McLagan’s senior taxidermists completes a wall mount for an Oregon mule deer.
The video opens with a brief slide show of trail camera pictures of the deer, and one with the hunter who shot it. These images are used by the taxidermist to model the mount after, and make it as close to the real thing as possible.
The taxidermist likely took hours to complete the mount, but the time lapse shows all the details of the process in just a few minutes. You’ll see him do everything from preparing the mold and setting the hide, to applying finishing touches on the eyes, hair and other features.
