It’s better to let a tiger shark eat your camera than to eat you.
Filmmaker David Martin is used to close encounters with marine animals.
In this short piece, the encounter is with a large tiger shark. It is very close indeed!
Martin is suspended in the blue-green water holding his camera in front of him when a large tiger shark approaches with a sense of determination. Martin keeps the camera between him and the shark, as the tiger opens its mouth wide and appears to engulf the camera light.
He gives a couple of forceful kicks to propel himself backwards, while extending his left arm to firmly stiff-arm the shark away.
The shark attack lasts a couple of seconds, and the shark continues in the direction Martin shoved it.
We can only imagine the sequence of images Martin’s camera took as the shark moved in for a bite!
