Check out this awesome video of legendary boar hunter Franz-Albrecht Oettingen and learn how to shoot a running boar from the master.
Just like when hunting upland birds or waterfowl, hitting a running boar requires a special set of marksmanship skills. This video of Franz-Albrecht Oettingen on a driven boar hunt in Romania does a good job of demonstrating just how much lead is necessary to hit a running boar at various speeds and various ranges.
This man is truly a master at that kind of shooting and is among the very best in the world when it comes to hitting a moving target like that. Watch the video to see an incredible display of his talents as well as a pretty cool demonstration of what your sight picture should look like when trying to hit a running boar.
I don’t care who you are, that is some nice shooting. He’s clearly in a class of his own.
Notice the equipment he was using? The shooter is more important than the equipment, but having some good quality gear can really help once you’ve developed the skills to hit a running boar (or any other animal). The Aimpoint red dot sight is a great choice for quickly taking aim at fast moving targets. The Blaser straight pull bolt action allows for very rapid follow up shots in case of a miss or the opportunity to shoot a second animal.
