This Fish Has a Nose, Does That Make It a Human Fish?

On a tiny island in the Caribbean, fisherman pulled in a most unusual fish.

Just when you thought you’d seen it all, this human fish comes waltzing out of the water. Why is it a human fish? Well, because it has “two feet with toes, no fins and a perfect human nose.”

On Carriacou, local fishermen got the surprise and disgust of their life when this human fish species reared its pretty ugly head on the end of their line. The creature, with its toed-feet, walks across the seabed. And it has to walk, believe me, because it doesn’t have any fins for swimming.

Not only did it have this list of oddities, but it also was 12 inches long. That’s right – one solid foot of sci-fi horror coming out of the net.

Veteran fisherman Hope McLawrence, a 74-year-old lifelong fisherman, told the Daily Mail, “This has shocked me to a considerable extent since I never thought that a creature like this even existed, much less in the harbour of these shallow, friendly waters.”

For good measure, a .GIF of what appears to be the same fish was uploaded to reddit in the days following the discovery. So if the image wasn’t horrifying enough, here’s a clip of this this wriggling around.

Early guesses on the fish’s genetic makeup place it as a longnose batfish, a fish we don’t know much about at all. However, the fish is being transported to a science lab, so hopefully we’ll have some definitive answers soon.
