Texas Fishermen Busted on Social Media for Bragging About Exceeded Bag Limits

A photo of two anglers in Texas, who went way over the bag limit while fishing, went viral.

Once again, social media led the authorities straight to the anglers, resulting in massive fines for both anglers.

The incident also spurred fishing expert to share the reasons, and importance, of fishing licenses and limits.

Dr. Greg Stunz with the Harte Research Institute at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi says, “It takes several years for these fish to grow into keeper size categories and many species have an upper size limit we try to protect those upper sized fish because they’re our spawners, that’s what makings the baby fish so we don’t want to deplete their populations.”

Fishing license fees and citation fines go to research to determine catch limits and healthy population sizes of fish species in order to conserve resources, preserve fish for future generations and to maintain a healthy ecosystem.
