Terrified Kayaker Tries to Outrun a Lightning Storm in Florida [VIDEO]

Here’s the moment when a terrified kayaker realizes that a storm is coming and he’s still out on the open water.

Florida kayak fishing enthusiast Erik Walasek was on the water in Aripeka, Florida with a friend when they realized that a storm was brewing and it was time to go.

Before they could barely get paddling, the storm was on them.

Here’s the terrifying race to the shore with lightning all around them.

In the state of Florida, rain, storms, and lightning are a part of life.

One moment it can be clear as day, and the next you’re in danger. This is especially true for fishermen out on the open water.

“In the summer, the storms literally pop up wherever they want to,” said Walasek.

Luckily these kayaking anglers arrived safe to tell the tale and share their exploits with the rest of us.
