4 Tasty Campfire Desserts for Kids of All Ages

Here are four of the best campfire desserts you’ve come across, perfect to please the kids.

Dinnertime on a camping trip is always a lot of fun, from building the campfire to the build up of what you’re making for dessert. If the tried-and-true s’more recipe is losing its luster, try one of the recipes below. These treats are easy to make and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Make them using a portable grill or grate, cook stove or just hot coals. Some of these are messy, so pack some wet wipes for easy clean up.

1. Banana Boats

These are just as much fun to make as they are messy to eat. If you want more candy and less banana, spoon out the top half inch of the banana to make more room for the candy mixture.

Ingredients and Supplies:

  • Banana, 1 per person
  • Butterscotch chips
  • Chocolate chips
  • Peanut butter chips
  • Shredded coconut
  • Foil

Preparation:

  1. Slice the banana lengthwise, but leave the peel on (the goal is to create a pocket with the peel)
  2. Stuff the pocket with the candy mixture
  3. Line your grill with foil
  4. Place and balance bananas upright on top of the foil
  5. If available (but not necessary), cover with a lid to speed up the melting process
  6. Carefully remove from heat after candy mixture is gooey and fully melted
  7. Eat with a spoon

2. Campfire Cones

This flavorful dessert is contained in the cone, making it a great option for messy eaters. Tip: Keep an eye on the cones while they cook to avoid scorching.

Ingredients and Supplies:

  • Ice cream sugar cones
  • Marshmallows
  • Berries
  • Peanut butter
  • Banana, cut into slices
  • Chocolate chips
  • Foil

Preparation:

  1. Create a topping buffet
  2. Stuff the sugar cones full of desired toppings
  3. Wrap in foil
  4. Place on heat for five to 10 minutes
  5. Let cool before enjoying like an ice cream cone

3. Stuffed Orange Cinnamon Rolls

These citrus-scented treats can be enjoyed for breakfast or dessert! The orange rind prevents the cinnamon roll from getting burned, so you don’t have to worry about leaving them on until they are fully baked.

Ingredients and Supplies:

  • 8 oranges
  • 1 tube of cinnamon rolls
  • Paring knife
  • Foil

Preparation:

  1. Cut a 2-inch circle out of the top of each orange, set lid aside
  2. Hollow out the oranges with the pairing knife, innards can be saved for a snack for later
  3. Place a cinnamon roll inside each orange and place the 2-inch lid back on top
  4. Wrap each orange in foil from the bottom up, making the top easily accessible
  5. Place on or close to the heat for 10-12 minutes or until the roll is done baking
  6. Remove from the fire, drizzle with icing and enjoy your citrus-infused cinnamon roll

4. Best S’more Ever

Take s’mores to the next level by incorporating berry jam or artisan chocolate in the stack. Give your wire hanger a break and use a cast-iron pie iron to heat up this decadent dessert.

Ingredients and Supplies:

  • Graham crackers
  • Marshmallows
  • Chocolate bars
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Shredded coconut
  • Cast-iron pie iron
  • Foil

Preparation:

  1. Line the pie iron with foil
  2. Stack s’more ingredients in the following order: graham, chocolate, marshmallow, strawberries, coconut, chocolate, graham cracker
  3. Smash together to close pie iron
  4. Set on heat for about two minutes on each side
  5. Remove and let cool before devouring
