Ian from Forgotten Weapons takes a look at the Colt 1907 Trials Pistol.

The Colt 1911 .45 caliber military pistol had some previous versions that pre-dated that famous design. Ian from Forgotten Weapons gets to take a look at the Colt 1907 semi automatic pistol.

The Colt Model 1907 pistol looks similar to the future Model 1911 pistol. That is where the similarities end. The grip safety was quite small. There also was a heel style magazine release that was more standard on European pistols. The take down was quite different and a small steel shim needed removed to service the pistol. When firing the shim could possibly fall out and allow the slide to fly backwards striking the shooter. These are just a few of the major differences in the 1907 model over the well known model 1911 pistol.

The Colt 1907 Trials Pistol is quite a step toward the future of handgun design. John Browning sure could design quite impressive weapons that have indeed changed history and continue to influence gun designs.
