Waterfowl are notoriously very protective of their young. The large, male swan, known as a cob, in this video is no different.
In this video uploaded by Wildlife Aid, a baby swan, known as a cygnet, got itself stuck in a chain link fence and needed some human assistance to rejoin its family in the water.
The protective swan parent doesn’t understand that the human is there to help and gives the man a few swats with its wings as the baby swan squeaks in distress.

Luckily, the cygnet was quickly released from the fence unharmed and returned to the water to swim another day. This video just goes to show that the protective instinct of parents is present in many different species in the animal kingdom.
