Summer scouting can be critical to fall hunting success — if it’s done right.
Tag along as Aaron Warbritton goes on a summer scouting mission and describes the types of features he’s looking for to help him kill a buck when hunting season rolls around.
Like many aspects of whitetail hunting, summer scouting is an art learned through experience. As Aaron mentioned in the video, it’s important not to invade bedding areas too many times during the off season since this could cause the deer you are after to leave the area.
At the same time, it’s always a good idea to give old hunting areas a quick check before the season gets under way. Unknown changes from logging activity, wind storms, or off season wildfires can drastically change the way deer use the area. Knowing about these changes ahead of time will allow you to make a plan for the upcoming season so you’ll be ready when it finally rolls around.
