South Dakota Girl Takes First Mountain Lion with One Shot

Rapid City Journal

Carah Tisdall, 13, of South Dakota just took her first mountain lion on her first ever shot.

A seventh grader, Tisdall, went out with her parents and family friends in a South Dakota State Park over Easter weekend in search of her first mountain lion.

As the Rapid City Journal reported, she “drew one of the 12 mountain lion hunting licenses for Custer State Park this season” and “her father Brad had been giving her hunting lessons.” Using the family’s hound dogs, trained for hunting, found a mountain lion up a tree fleeing from the dogs.

Carah drew and made one perfect shot, nailing the mountain lion which was a female of 95 pounds around three years old. Tisdall’s mountain lion was the 39th mountain lion harvested in the Black Hills this season and the season officially ended following easter weekend.
