Is This a South Carolina Mountain Lion? Here’s Trail Cam Evidence

South Carolina mountain lion

If there is no documented population of a South Carolina mountain lion, then what the heck is this?

The last documented Eastern mountain lion was trapped in Maine back in 1938. However, that hasn’t stopped hundreds of reports of seeing other mountains lions east of the Mississippi every year since.

As a matter of fact, the US Fish and Wildlife Service is planning to delist the Eastern mountain lion altogether as an extinct animal sometime soon. That all may be well and good, but then what the heck is this that was caught on his trail camera in South Carolina?

Yep. That looks like a South Carolina mountain lion to me!

What you just saw is actual trail cam footage of a possible South Carolina mountain lion. The state DNR claims these cats do not exist any longer in the state and haven’t for over 100 years. However, it’s hard to argue with this.

Now, popular theories from that past from other reports have simply been these big cat sightings were made up, or just cats that wandered over from the West. Either way, it’s hard to argue with video evidence.

So what do you think? Are these illusive big cats making a comeback or is this just a big house cat that looks even bigger on a trail camera at night?
