Watch a bull shark in South Africa move in close to a hippo family and see the hippos’ reactions!
Bull sharks are equally at home in either salt or freshwater, and this one is no exception. Hippos on the other hand, generally keep to family groups and concentrate in shallow water estuaries.
The hippopotamus also happens to be one of the most dangerous animals on earth. This is what happens when one gets too close to the other.
According to tour guide Stacey Farrell, who recorded the footage, “Due to the hippo defecating in the water there are generally a lot of fish between the hippos, so it would be the best place for the shark to be looking for a snack.”
In other words the hippos poop in the water, the fish gather to feed on it (yuck), and the shark is there looking for those very gross fishes.
However, hippos don’t take kindly to any kind of trespassing whatsoever.
Good thing the shark is fast, or it would have become the snack instead of getting one.
