Sinkhole Opens in China, Swallows 55,000 Pounds of Fish

In Guangxi, China, a Chinese farmer found that a giant sinkhole swallowed over 55,000 pounds of fish.

The farmer, only identified to Mashable as Yang, woke up on Tuesday and found his entire pond gone. The sinkhole was massive and Yang noticed it slowly.

“I first noticed that the water levels in my pond had dropped at 4 a.m…at 9 a.m., most of the water and all my fish had gone, drained into the sinkhole,” he reported.

Though not much information is known, it is incredible to see how this appeared. Sinkholes in China aren’t uncommon, though, as a sinkhole opened up last summer and actually swallowed five people on the street.

In this case, it’s lucky that the only harm that came to the farmer was the loss of fish, but it is a huge number indeed.
