A scallop diver and his daughter were off the coast off Australia diving for scallops in Saturday morning when a shark attacked and killed the man.
A man and his daughter were diving for scallops from their small aluminum dinghy Saturday morning off the Tasmanian Coast.
The daughter, who is in her ’20s, came back to the boat while the father dove back down for more scallops. When the father didn’t return to the boat, the daughter became worried and started to look for him.
The daughter then saw a shark approach and attack her father. She immediately set off a flare and nearby fishermen came to investigate. The daughter had, by then, watched her father be attacked and eventually killed.
“This is a deeply traumatic incident for the daughter. We’re providing support as best we can [and] we’ve got professional critical incident people attending their residence as we speak,” said investigator David Wiss.
