Sea Lion Takes on Octopus in New Zealand, Lunch Ensues

A juvenile sea lion in New Zealand went toe to toe with a large octopus for the title of “Who’s lunch?”

A resident of Harington Point was present with their video camera when a young sea lion decided to treat a big octopus for lunch- it’s just that the octopus didn’t know that it was him that was on the menu.

The ensuing battle showed what a hungry sea lion can do to a large octopus.

The only real battle in the war between these two denizens of the deep was the one fought by the sea lion after it subdued the octopus. It had more trouble trying to get a bite of his big tentacled foe than he did killing it.

Since sea lions are endangered in New Zealand, even called “nationally critical” by some conservationists, seeing one have a good dinner is paramount.
