It’s that time of year when bull moose gear up for brutal fights like this one.
The rutting season is the time of year when bull moose turn into hulk monsters eager to smash their rivals in pursuit of mating partners. During the rut, bulls’ necks expand nearly twice their size, and with their huge racks and increased muscle mass, they become living battering rams.
While hiking in Kanaskis, Alberta, hiker Tawny Tersmette captured this raw video of two rutting bulls duking it out along a back road. Fights like this one are an everyday occurrence during the rut, but we seldom get to witness them up close. It’s an incredible display of how powerful these animals are.
More big game clashes:
Tersmette said the bulls were the biggest she’s ever seen.
“We were driving down the highway and rounded the corner to see the moose tumble down the right side of the road,” Tersmette told the CBC. “The fight lasted over 20 minutes. The one with the larger antlers won the battle.”
