An upgraded trigger group for the 10/22 series firearms is released from Ruger.

The 10/22 rifles and Charger pistols have been the favorite .22 LRs for many generations. Easy to use, affordable and fun to shoot, these firearms are must-haves for any gun enthusiast. Most gun owners probably have at least one type of 10/22 sitting in their safe already. Plinkers, varmint hunters, long-range precision shooters, even survivalists and kids: They all love the 10/22.

There are so many models and styles to choose from: the Carbine, the Scout, the 50th anniversary design, the Takedown. So many rifles, so little time.

Probably the easiest rifle to customize, the 10/22 can be upgraded and changed quite easily by home gunsmiths. There are bolt lock mods, magazine mods and many different stocks, the options can make your head spin. There is a kit to convert the 10/22 into a bullpup rifle, and a kit to convert two rifles into a crank-operated Gatling gun. There are kits to make the rifle an AR pattern rifle in order to bolt all sorts of accessories onto it. There is a laser from Ruger that can be added to replace the stock barrel band.

Now you can even upgrade the trigger group.

That’s right! That old stock 6-pound trigger pull in your stock 10/22 rifle and 22 Charger pistol can go away. On Dec. 15, 2014, Ruger announced in a press release that it is introducing the BX-Trigger, a “light, crisp, drop-in replacement trigger assembly that is compatible with all Ruger 10/22 rifles and 22 Charger pistols.”

“The BX-Trigger was designed for easy installation, superior performance and legendary Ruger reliability,” said Ruger President and COO Chris Killoy. “Like the popular BX-25 magazine for the 10/22, the BX-Trigger will deliver the excellence and value that shooters have come to expect from Ruger.”

The BX-Trigger will be available as a complete assembly and will be just a drop-in trigger set. There should be no fitting of the trigger group needed. This new trigger lightens the trigger pull from the factory 6-pound trigger to the new 2.75 pull weight. It is designed to help make the shot break crisper and cleaner.

This is an exciting upgrade to the 10/22 series of firearms. The stock trigger has been rough and heavy for years, and many people have fixed them to lighten them. But a trigger group straight from the factory that lightens it, that’s cool.

This is an upgrade that has been needed for a long time and is a welcome step forward from Ruger. The BX-Trigger will be available from the online Ruger store and all authorized Ruger dealers starting today, Dec. 19, 2014.
