An Australian family rescued a baby magpie and now it has become a loving family member.
A little over a year ago, the Bloom family rescued a lone magpie chick that 10-year-old Noah Bloom found on the ground near their home in New South Wales. They named the little bird “Penguin” and nursed it back to health. Penguin has now become a permament part of the family.
The Blooms give Penguin free rein to come and go as she pleases. She sees the three boys – Rueben, Noah and Oli – off to school in the mornings, leaves to do whatever it is that magpies do during the day, and is back by 3:30 p.m. to greet the boys when they get home.
Penguin also has fun mimicking her family’s voices, sneaking table scraps at dinner time, snuggling in bed and just hanging out with her family.
Cameron Bloom is a professional photographer and he’s documented life with Penguin in a series of Instagram images.
