Bacon bourbon hot chocolate should be on the menu every night.
So…then this recipe happened. Recently I was looking for different wild game recipes to make something out of with bourbon. I mean, how can that go wrong?
Somewhere in the mix I stumbled upon this recipe from Serious Eats. I knew immediately I had to try it. As you are about to see, bacon bourbon hot chocolate arrived in our house.

Just in case you need it, here’s the actual recipe that I used for two cups of hot chocolate.
Bacon Bourbon Hot Chocolate
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 heap of dark cocoa
- Small pinch cornstarch
- 2 oz dark chocolate
- 2 oz semi-sweet chocolate
Start out by placing several strips of bacon in the oven on a rack for 15 minutes at 400 degrees. While the bacon is cooking, bring 2 cups of milk to a simmer on the stove. Next, add in the chocolate and 1 tablespoon sugar and stir until melted.
When the bacon is finished and crisp, reserve 1 tablespoon fat and mix with a pinch of cornstarch. Add this mixture to the pot of hot chocolate and stir. Pour into cups and add in 1 shot of Baileys and 1 shot of your favorite bourbon. Top it all off with some marshmallows and a strip of bacon for even extra flavor.
Now this is an adult hot chocolate we can all get behind.
