Rare Bird Thought Extinct Caught on Tape in Brazil

A 16-year-old took footage of the rare Spix’s macaw in Brazil which was then confirmed by experts.

A short video was taken of a bird thought to have been extinct in the wild and now experts are saying that it is indeed the rare Spix’s macaw.

The last time one of these amazing birds was seen in the wild was back in 2000. Now that’s all changed with the push of a button.

Deforestation and the accompanying habitat destruction had thought to have decimated populations of the rare Brazilian bird. Maybe even worse for the Spix’s macaw was the propensity of humans to collect them as pets.

Now that experts have confirmed the existence of the bird again maybe they can get the proper protections they need to thrive again.
