Watch this to get a lesson on how to quarter a whitetail with a biologist from the Michigan DNR.
While most times it makes sense to hang and skin your whitetail in one go, learning how to quarter could come in very handy.
Consider those really big bucks: many retreat to the most inaccessible places they can when they start feeling hunting pressure. Many of these sanctuaries are in remote wilderness or backwoods where no truck, ATV or side-by-side can get to.
Being able to quarter your deer and pack it out is critical in these situations. Watch this demonstration from the Michigan DNR and expand your hunting ranges well off the beaten track.
These are the type of skills I like to work on so that I can venture further and hunt harder, searching out those big deer that lurk far from hunting pressure.
