Quad and Motorcross Rider Attacked by Mother Grizzly in Alberta

A mother grizzly attacked a quad and motorcross bike rider on Aug. 29 after they encountered her two cubs.

According to Alberta Fish and Wildlife, two motorcross riders were in an area known as the Ghost Public Land Use Zone – located northwest of Cochrane – when they encountered two bear cubs.

Both riders were subsequently attacked by the mother grizzly until one was able to pepper spray the bear.

The riders were then able to use the quad to search for help.

One rider was flown to Calgary by helicopter. His injuries are considered serious. The other rider only suffered minor injuries.

The area has now been closed to the public.
