Zimbabwe police arrested professional hunter Theodore Bronkhorst, known for helping kill Cecil the Lion, for illegally transporting sable antelope across the country’s border.
Professional hunter Theodore Bronkhorst has tracked down nothing but trouble over the last few months. In July, Bronkhort was charged with illegally luring Cecil, a well-known lion to the area from a national park, and guiding American dentist James Walter Palmer to kill the large cat.
Now, he has been arrested for transporting sable antelope across the Zimbabwe-South Africa border without the proper permits.
According to the Star Tribune, Bronkhorst was arrested and charged with three other men after their trucks hauling the antelope became stuck near the Limpopo River. He will be charged for attempting to transport wild animals without a permit and faces an additional charge of participating in a smuggling racket.
The 29 sables involved were valued at $384,000.
Bronkhost’s trial for the Cecil case was set for September 28, 2015. The death of the popular lion caused a global uproar in the media.
