Authorities in Los Angeles, California were investigating the death of a man found in his nearby car when they found over 1,200 guns and two tons of ammunition in the man’s home.
Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith called the find staggering and said that, “Our truck couldn’t carry it all.”
His department hasn’t yet identified the man, but says that there is no evidence that he was involved in anything criminal.
The discovery was made after police found the man’s decomposing body a car down the street from his residence in Pacific Palisades.
One neighbor said that there were boxes of ammunition behind the garage piled some eight feet high and that the pile just kept getting bigger.
The find included handguns, shotguns, and rifles, but as Smith said:
“It’s not a crime to have a large number of weapons so long as they were legal to own and legally obtained. We want to make sure that’s the case.”
