Pistol Skills: Slide Lock vs. Racking the Slide, What is More Efficient?

What will get your pistol back into action faster: using the slide lock or racking the slide?

The host of Range Time TS goes over the old debate of what is a better; manipulating the slide lock on your pistol or racking the slide on an emergency reload.

While one method may be faster, is it really the most efficient when under stress, with the assumption that fine motor skills usually rapidly decrease? Have a look as this video demonstrates how either option works on time and for efficiency to get the pistol back into action.

It is clear in this demonstration that he is quicker using the slide lock to get the pistol firing again, however this is on a range with very little stress. With stress fine motor skills are likely to drop so the host prefers racking the slide to get the gun firing again.

As they say in the military “train as you fight”. Whatever method you choose, continue to practise it under live fire conditions, but keep in mind, the finer the manipulation the harder it may be to do under stress with the adrenalin dropping.
