The northern pike is a formidable opponent when hooked and this video proves it!
Fighting any fish after setting the hook gives most anglers a huge adrenaline rush. However, that adrenaline rush increases with the size and power of the fish. Catching sunfish is fun, but there is something special about hooking into a bigger fish like a pike.
The angler in this video was fly fishing for northern pike when one took his fly and got hooked. At some point during the fight, the pike made an incredible leap out of the water in an attempt to throw the hook. Check it out below in slow motion goodness!
It really is amazing to see just how the pike goes about launching itself completely out of the water. A swimming motion gets it most of the way out of the water before the final thrust of the tail finishes the job.
Makes you want to go pike fishing right now, doesn’t it?
