An 18-year-old teen named Camille Marie Bomboy was attacked by a black bear while out deer hunting with her step-father and a large hunting party late Monday afternoon. Bomboy and the party were driving deer through the woods when three black bear cubs ran by her, soon followed by the assumed mother bear who promptly attacked the young woman. Luckily Bomboy’s step-father was able to scare off the bear before the attack could turn fatal.
Her injuries included severe bites on her arms and shoulders, and a deep cut on her head, authorities said. She was hunting in Porter Township, about 75 miles northwest of Harrisburg, when the attack occurred. The Pennsylvania Game Commission is investigating, and noted that the black bear population in Pennsylvania has increased from about 4,000 in the 1970s to about 14,000 today.
Bomboy was taken to Lock Haven Hospital then transferred to Geisinger Medical Center where she underwent surgery. Currently, there are no updates on her condition.
As we all know, the majority of bear seasons in Pennsylvania ended last week, but not before a PA hunter bagged a 772-pound monster that tipped the scales as a record-breaking black bear.
