50 miles south of South Pass, a group of friends had a rare encounter with orcas in the Gulf of Mexico.

Mark Hawley, Nick Trist, IV, Jared Averill, Matt Teen, Ashley Joplin, and Jessica Piglia were tuna fishing when they came across the orcas in a unusual location, the Gulf of Mexico.

Watch this new clip and get the full story in this rare orca footage.

This video footage is deemed as rare because orcas are known to stay in warm waters and typically don’t swim close to shore.

According to reports the sighting of these orcas could mean there is an environmental change afoot. Dr. Moby Solangi of the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) in Gulfport, told reporters this behavior could be a first warning sign of habitat alteration.

After watching this clip it’s apparent that now matter what you’re doing, something else is likely to take center stage and surprise you. These guys were only out for tuna when a pack of orcas showed up and wowed them.
