An orca shows off its impressive strength when it launched a seal high into the air with a mighty tail flip.
The orca, also known as a killer whale, is one of the top predators in the entire ocean. Even sharks don’t want anything to do with them.
The orca is fast, agile, smart and as evidenced by this video, extremely strong. Seals are one of the killer whale’s favorite items on the ocean’s menu of food sources. The unfortunate harbor seal in this video learned that the hard way.
The orca in this video is a part of a pod of orcas known as the T69s and is the lone male of the group. He was born in 1995 and is called T69C by researchers.
During an attack on a harbor seal, the orca uses its massive tail to launch the seal skywards. It isn’t exactly clear if the whale intended to launch the seal or if it happened by chance.
However, the whale’s strength cannot be denied. A full-grown harbor seal can weigh close to 300 pounds. That is no light load to throw as high as the one in the video.
Killer whales usually live to around the age of 30 in the wild although some have been known to live into their 50s.
The whale in this video is 20 years old, so he has plenty of time left to continue hunting seals and swimming the world’s oceans.
